Personal Information

Dr. Alok Misra has over 30 years of experience in international development, microfinance, and inclusive finance, contributing at both policy and implementation levels. He began his career in 1992 with NABARD, India’s apex rural development bank, focusing on financial sector supervision, institutional development, microfinance, rural finance, and MSME finance. His global work spans 24 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Pacific. He has authored numerous publications, including the "Inclusive Finance India Report" for several years, and currently serves as Chairperson of the Global Alliance for Financial Inclusion (GAFI). Dr. Misra holds a PhD in Development Studies from Victoria University of Wellington and a master’s in development management (Gold Medallist) from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila. He received the ADB-Government of Japan and NZAID scholarships. He is also a Fellow of the Fletcher Leadership Program at Tufts University and trained in Strategic Leadership for Microfinance at Harvard Business School.
