Melati Nungsari is an economist specializing in industrial organization, market design, labor economics, and public policy. She is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Asia School of Business in collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management in Kuala Lumpur and serves as Director of the ASEAN Research Center. She is also a Research Affiliate at MIT Sloan. Her work focuses on economic policy, migration, entrepreneurship, and the challenges faced by vulnerable communities in emerging economies. Dr. Nungsari has collaborated with international organizations including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and Malaysia’s Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) on research addressing vulnerable populations and policy responses. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Economics (Magna Cum Laude) from Knox College. Her work bridges academic research and policy engagement, contributing to evidence-based policymaking and inclusive economic development across Southeast Asia.
