Michael J. McCord is a global leading microinsurance expert with decades of experience including as CEO of a Ugandan MFI, and regional director for microfinance programs with FINCA International. He founded the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman (MIC@M) in 2000, an internationally recognized thought leader driving microinsurance and risk management solutions with a vision to reach three billion low-income people. Michael has worked in over 90 countries, with recent projects including climate risk insurance for MFIs in Pakistan and Malawi, climate resilience pilots in Pakistan and India, and a protection gap analysis for the Maldives. He is a founding member and former chair of the Microinsurance Network, and serves on the UNCDF’s Climate Insurance Linked Resilient Infrastructure Finance and the IDF’s Inclusive Insurance Working Groups. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the Bangladesh Insurance Journal, and as an Honorary Director of the Risk and Insurance Studies Centre’s Diploma in Risk and Insurance Management at York University.
