Financial Inclusion Specialist, e-MFP
Sam Mendelson is an inclusive finance researcher and consultant with nearly 20 years of experience leading and contributing to high-impact initiatives focused on client protection, WEE/GLI, digital finance, renewable energy access, inclusive insurance, and financial health for low-income populations.
He is currently Knowledge Lead at e-MFP, a leading global platform for inclusive finance, where he is part of the design and evaluation team for the annual Luxembourg Award for Inclusive Finance (formerly the European Microfinance Award), is lead author of the only-of-its-kind Financial Inclusion Compass survey of sector trends, and is responsible for most of e-MFP’s knowledge and thought-leadership outputs.
He is also head of e-MFP’s Gender Lens Investing Action Group (having overseen development of the first-of-its-kind GLI Resource Portal), and is co-head of the WASH Action Group, developing a standardised indicator framework for the WASH sector. Before this, he was Knowledge Specialist at Arc Finance, an energy access NGO, a senior consultant in emerging markets at ESL, and was programme director at the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation, where he was co-author of the Microfinance Banana Skins survey series
